Mint Hill
Construction on the North Carolina Korean War Veterans Memorial is now underway in Mint Hill Park on land
donated by the town. The location is at the intersection of North Carolina Highway 218 and Interstate 485. The
memorial has been in the planning stages for five years. It is the only one in North Carolina specifically
dedicated to the Korean War. A five-ton granite monument carved and engraved by Lexington Blue Granite from
Ellberton, Georgia was delivered to the site just before Christmas 2010. By August of 2011, the planners were
halfway to their goal of raising $510,000 to build the monument. North Carolina lost 789 KIA and MIA in the
Korean War. The memorial will also honor all Korean War veterans who served in South Korea's defense. Chapter
265 of the North Carolina Korean War Veterans Association is spearheading the drive to build it. The architect

Fayetteville - Freedom Memorial Park
A special ceremony was held in "Freedom Memorial Park",
Fayetteville, North Carolina at 3: PM July 27, 2003, fifty years after the armistice was signed. The monument is
7 foot-high, 12 food wide black and gray granite .Engraved on the top of the memorial is the simple phase. "The
Forgotten War" and at the base reads "Freedom is not free". It shows all the major units from that war and list
the casualties.
